Garden for sale for Apple and Egg
89 allotment gardens can be found on the northern outskirts of Jerichow (Jerichower Land district). Each of them offers a view of the town’s famous monastery — but not all are still actively maintained.

Many allotment owners and leaseholders are not from Jerichow, but from bigger cities like Stendal, Magdeburg, and Berlin.
At least 30 percent of the gardens are currently unused. That can be interesting for private users, as it’s easy to obtain one.
The special feature:
These are ownership gardens.
You own the land you cultivate for hobby purposes or use as a personal retreat.
The plots are about 345 m² in size, and building a small garden house is permitted. There is a power connection available in the allotment settlement. However, it’s up to the buyer to run a cable from the main distributor to their own plot.
There is no water or sewage system. Since the groundwater is shallow, some gardeners have installed pumps.
Purchase via auction house or personal network
In 2023, a garden was offered through a nationwide auction house for €1,450. On top of that, there’s an auctioneer’s fee of 17.85%, plus notary and land registry costs. Land transfer tax does not apply if the purchase price is under €2,500.
That plot didn’t find a new owner at the time — and is now returning to the auction block in just a few days. The new minimum bid: €900. So far, no one has placed a bid.
Allotment gardens as a business model?
Allotment gardens in rural areas rarely make sense as a business model. Most single-family homes built over the last 30 years no longer need an additional garden.
Apartment blocks, as our next article will show, have been gradually torn down over the last three decades. Plus, tomatoes are now available in supermarkets 365 days a year at affordable prices.
An allotment garden is a matter of passion.
In Jerichow, the annual lease for an allotment ranges between €20 and €30!
Private sellers would gladly let go of their now overgrown garden plots for even less — if they could only find a buyer. Feel free to reach out to us to make contact.
